Pat Fitzgerald was the hero for Bohemians in this exciting game played at Ben Wadding Park on Thursday night last. He scored the only goal of the game early in the second half to secure the points.
The visitors put their hosts on the back foot for periods after that goal but try as they might they could not get the equaliser. The prediction was that this would be a very tight affair and that is how it panned out. Two fine sides playing good football on a brisk, cold evening.
Bohs were first out of the blocks and they created the first goalscoring chance after six minutes. Dean Reidy cut inside and took on two Crystal defenders before firing in a left-foot shot that just cleared the crossbar with Crystal keeper Declan Doyle beaten.
On 10 minutes Bohs were on the attack again, this time centre-forward Eoin Cleary controlled a long ball from Jack Hale but Cleary’s shot on the turn was pushed past the post by Doyle.
Crystal were playing a containing game as Bohs went on the all out attack; however Crystal caught Bohs with a swift counter attack on 15 minutes.
Cory Kavanagh broke up a Bohs attack and played the ball out wide to Michael McDonagh his pass released Shane Elliott the Crystal striker took his shot on the run but Jack Hale got across to make a goal saving tackle.
Back came Bohs and Geoff Tebay was unlucky to see his twenty five yard effort crash against the crossbar with Doyle in trouble. Minutes later Pat Fitzgerald got behind the Crystal defence but his powerful angled drive was superbly saved by Declan Doyle.
