Premier League strugglers Bohemians crashed out of the FAI Junior Cup in dramatic style in Ben Wadding Park on Saturday night last to Division 1A outfit Southend United. Bohemians are former champions in this competition but those days now appear to be a long time ago. Southend have been struggling themselves since they got relegated from the Premier League, but following on from their 6-1 drubbing of Tramore Rangers the previous week they were really up for this game against one of their oldest rivals and they fully deserved their passage into round two.
Southend dominated the majority of the first half and perhaps they should have gone in with a larger lead at the interval, but they had to be content with just a one-goal advantage. Dylan Power, the Bohemians goalkeeper did well to save a header from Daniel O’Sullivan on 9 minutes following a cross from David Croke. Paddy Dooley took a corner kick from the left on 15 minutes but at the back post David Croke headed into the side netting.
