Gardai in Waterford have urged the public to be extra vigilant in the run-up to Christmas, following a notable increase in household burglaries and break-ins to parked cars in recent weeks.
Four houses in Collin Avenue were burgled last Friday night, with entry to the properties gained via a back door or window in all instances. On the same night, a house in The Dell, Grantstown, was also broken in to and there were robberies at properties in Viewmount, Ardkeen Village, Summerville Avenue, Farran Park, Ballybeg Court and Larchville throughout last weekend. Mainly laptops, mobile phones and wallets were taken from downstairs rooms during the course of the robberies, whilst the occupants of the houses slept upstairs.
Meanwhile several cars were broken into in city centre areas last weekend, notably in the Bank Place, Lady Lane and Glen areas, along with Castle Street, Poleberry, Kingsmeadow and Roanmore Park. The perpetrators gained access to the cars by smashing side windows and then making off with any valuables, with most of the break-ins occurring after dark. Gardai have particularly asked the public not to leave valuables in their cars.
Anyone who may have information in connection with any of the above incidents is asked to contact Waterford Garda Station on 051 874 888.
