Carrick United won a place in the next round of the Umbro FAI Junior cup when they got the better of Mayo side Iorras Aonaithe on penalties following a scoreless draw in their meeting in the West of Ireland on Sunday afternoon last.
After neither team could find the back of the net in normal or extra time. However, the team from Tom Drohan Park, who were reduced to 10 players when Keith Walsh was dismissed for a second bookable offence, went through 4-2 on penalties.
As a result of this win, they will now face Dublin AUL side WFTA in the next round after they defeated Douglas Hall of Cork 3-0.
Meanwhile there was no luck for Waterford other side remaining in the competition as 2006 champions Waterford Crystal bowed out at the hands of holders Ballymun United after extra time at the AUL Complex on Sunday afternoon.
The visitors gave as good as they got for the opening 90 minutes and they did have a couple of half chances to break the deadlock. However, they were undone by an extra time goal in the final minute of the first period, leaving Crystal to concentrate on local league and cup action.
