Champions Carrick United are not going to give up their crown without a major fight during the coming weeks. Despite facing an FAI Junior Cup semi-final against Castlebar Celtic on April 13th in Ozier Park and an away game against St James Gate in the FAI Senior Cup on March 30th, they are going all out to catch Bohemians and Crystal at the top of the league table.

On Wednesday of last week they defeated Ferrybank in the Village Grounds 3-1. Keith Walsh, Wayne Fitzgerald and Barry Murphy netted for the champions. Wayne Fitzgerald made it 2-1 with 12 minutes remaining and Barry Murphy scored the insurance goal on the full time whistle. On Sunday last they headed to Kilrush Park and they beat Dungarvan United 2-0. They scored after only 2 minutes when the Dungarvan goalkeeper Aidan Landers could only parry a shot from Wayne Fitzgerald and Glen Keane slotted the ball to the net. The goalkeeper parried an effort from Keith Walsh after a great run down the left by Anthony Power on 65 minutes and this time Stephen Hahessy finished with style.

It may be a big ask for Carrick to win the league once again this season but nevertheless Bohs and Crystal and indeed St Saviour’s will be looking nervously over their shoulders from here on in.
