Ballinacourty 1-11 Ardmore 1-5

Ballinacourty all but secured their place in the last eight of this year’s County Senior Football Championship thanks to a six-point victory over Ardmore in Fraher Field on Saturday last.
However, Ardmore missed at least three good goal scoring opportunities over the course of the hour which if they had taken could have put a different complexion on the score board.
A win would also have secured their place in the last eight of this year’s Championship with one game still to play, but their fate shall now be determined in the final round.
Despite going under to a Kenny Murphy point early in the game, Ballinacourty had the better of the start, racing into a 0-4 to 0-1 lead by the 10th minute.
Indeed, had they taken half of the chances presented to them in the opening half they would have the game well and truly wrapped up by the break.
The game’s first goal arrived midway through the opening half when Gary Hurney set up Mark Ferncombe who gave Ballinacourty a 1-4 to 0-2 lead.
A Billy Harty free with nine minutes of the opening half remaining cut ‘Courty’s lead by one and two minutes later Niall O’Brien drew a great save from Stephen Enright to keep his side’s four point lead in tact.
However just moments later, Ardmore did manage to get the ball past Stephen Enright; Wayne Hennessy finishing a move that began with Seamus Prendergast who had dropped into the middle third of the field.
