The Ard Rí hotel site – a problem that shows no signs of abating for Waterford City Council – has also gained the attention of the concerned Waterford Local Drug Task Force (WLDTF).
In a letter to the Council’s Joint Policing Committee (JPC), Task Force Chairperson Eoin O’Neill stated his own committee’s concerns about drug taking and alcohol misuse on the site.
“There are also reports of members of the homeless community sleeping rough on the premises,” he added.
“As far as we are aware, there is no security staff on-site so the building has become a haven for those engaging in illegal drug activity and other anti-social behaviours. This poses serious health and safety issues for those accessing the premises as well as the surrounding area.”
