Cork City 3; Bohemians 2 (aet)

The players and mentors of Bohemians were left shattered and heartbroken in Turners Cross on Saturday night last. The Waterford boys gave everything possible to bring back the famous trophy to the Deise but despite a magnificent display they had to bend the knee in extra time against a hotly fancied Cork City outfit.

Shane Nolan gave Bohs the lead with a magnificent volley after 3 minutes. Rory Morrissey equalised for City on 16 minutes. Niall Clifford regained the lead for the Waterford side 3 minutes later, finishing a back-heeled pass from Ryan Foley. Back came Cork City and they equalised on 35 minutes, Rory Morrissey scoring his second goal of the game.

What proved to be the winning goal arrived in the last minute of the first period of extra time. Kenny O’Leary found the net after the Bohs goalkeeper Josh Burns had punched a deep cross clear. O’Leary found the net with real class but it was rough justice on a very brave and young Bohemians side.
