Bohemians 3; St Saviours 3
From time to time on the local football scene a match really stirs the blood and that was the case last week when Bohemians and St Saviours played out one of the best games seen in Waterford for a very long time.
Quite simply this contest had everything. Shane Nolan gave Bohs the lead with a fine free kick after 15 minutes (his brother Eddie was playing for Ireland the same night in Cork). Stephen Dalton equalised 17 minutes later with a smashing goal from a very tight angle out on the right.
Six minutes into the second half Aaron O’Neill scored one of the best goals seen in Waterford for many a long year. He latched on to a badly cleared corner by the Bohemians’ defenders and from all of 30 yards he unleashed an unstoppable shot past Geoff Kelly.
Gary Keane, the young Bohemians striker, was sent off before Bohs equalised from the penalty spot, through Matthew Billingham. Stephen Dalton then beat off three tackles before scoring his 10th league goal to regain the lead for the Saints.
Bohs won a very valuable point in injury time when Saviours’ goalkeeper Graham Cleary took out Kevin Whittle and he was also shown the red card for his troubles.
Billingham once again made no mistake from the penalty spot. When the sides met in the first series, Billingham also bagged a brace, and both of those goals were also scored from the spot.
