Kilrossanty 2-7; St Saviours 0-6
Kilrossanty all but booked their place in the quarter-finals of the senior football championship when they saw off the challenge of St Saviours in Walsh Park last Saturday evening. However, Kilrossanty were not overly impressive on this occasion and they will be concerned at the way they let St Saviours back into the game in the third quarter.
Although St Saviours did open the scoring in the third minute when Adam Brophy scored a free, that was their only score of the game. St Saviours struggled to get the ball past midfield during the opening half when Stephen and Tommy Prendergast were magnificent for Kilrossanty.
This domination of possession allowed the westerners to assume authority on the scoreboard and that they did as two points from minor star, Paul Whyte put them into the lead by the 15th minute.
The first half certainly belonged to the green and gold as further points from Barry Prendergast, a superb point from Joey Veale and an equally good one from Niall Walsh gave them a four-point lead. That became a five-point lead just before the half-time whistle when Paul Whyte tapped over his third of the day.
Kilrossanty were given a fantastic chance to put the game beyond their city rivals at the beginning of the second half when wing-forward, James Coade was brought down for a penalty. Paul Whyte stepped up and calmly dispatched the penalty past Paul Holohan to give Kilrossanty an eight-point lead.
For the next ten minutes St Saviours rallied as Nicky Jacob dominated midfield, completely outplaying Tommy Prendergast in the process.
