On Sunday last a sizable number of athletes from Waterford clubs competed in the Munster Cross Country championship fixture on Tralee Racecourse and there were quite a few medal winners, individual and team, and also several juvenile athletes that made Munster teams for the upcoming Nationals.

Niall Mc Cormack, Ferrybank, ran a superb race to win the Men’s Intermediate and Rory Moloney, West Waterford also ran a fine race in the same event to finish 5th overall. In the Juvenile section Kate Veale, West Waterford once again figured prominently in the under-17 grade to take the silver meda. Her team-mate Robbie Mulligan also ran a very good race to take the bronze u15 and Eoin Brown, Ferrybank was another to impress as he took the bronze at u13 level.

Ferrybank won the girls under-9 Inter-Club team award and were also third in the boys u13 and girls u15, while West Waterford were third in the girls u13. At inter-county team level Waterford had two bronze medal placings – the girls u11 and u13.

Other high individual placings for Ferrybank were Adam Power, 5th u9; Krista Meade, 6th u11; Dara Musgrave, 9th u11; Aoife Casey, 9th u9, and Isobel Cummins, 10th u11.

For West Waterford other notable performances included: Sinead Flynn, 7th u13; Shamie Fennell 7th u13; Declan Power, 9th u 19, and Miceal Power 11th u11.

For KCK, Gary Cantwell was 12th u17 and for Waterford AC’s Siobhan Heylin was 10th u17.
