One man native to the Diocese of Waterford and Lismore will commence his studies for the priesthood this year.

He is among a 36-strong group ranging from 18 to the mid-40s who will begin their studies immediately, with two more expected to join that number during the first term.

Neighbouring Dioceses, with the exception of Ferns (Wexford) will also be sending those pursuing a vocation into religious education.

Ossory (Kilkenny and parts of Laois and Offaly) and Cashel and Emly (Tipperary and parts of Limerick) have also produced one new student each.

Meanwhile, the Diocese of Cloyne (East Cork) has produced two vocations this year.

Come the end of next month, the number of seminarians in Maynooth will stand at 77.
