The 10th Waterford New Music Festival will take place from March 31st to April 4th with events at WIT College Street, Garter Lane and Christ Church Cathedral and it is the only contemporary music festival in the South East. This year, the featured artists are Gavin Bryars, Iarla O Lionard, The Crash Ensemble and Eric Sweeney.

On the Tuesday, 31st, there will be a special concert at College Street Chapel – Anail De – (The Breath Of God), based on the texts from ancient Irish spiritual manuscripts, performed by Bryars, O Lionaird and The Crash Ensemble.

On Wednesday, April 1st, at Garter Lane at 7pm, Mark Grahan will facilitate a Creative Music Technology event featuring animation soundtracks and computer music. This will be followed by a 53 minute film – Last Summer, an Anna Tchernakova film story with music by Gavin Bryars. It describes an elderly woman living in a secluded garden suburb.

On Thursday, April 2nd, at Christ Church Cathedral, at lunchtime, there will be a Concert Of Eric Sweeney’s Work, performed by students and graduates. At 8.30 in Garter Lane, the Phil Collins Trio will perform the Parker Davis and Jarrett tunes.

On Saturday, April 4th, at Christ Church Cathedral, Madrigallery will present a concert with Roisin O’Grady (soprano), Matthew Manning (oboe) and Eric Sweeney (organ) and a new Kyria by Sweeney will get its first public performance.
