Initially, I thought what a cliché Godspell had become as the curtain went up on Liam Butler’s production for Carrick-on-Suir Musical Society. With its bright cheap as chipboard set and used pallets, its clichéd opening scene with newsstand, American cop, kids, a thief and no Tower of Babel or the philophers but as the cast like a true ensemble, swung into action with great voices, fine interaction, excellent characterisations, snazzy choreography from Sandra Power and an excellent Jesus played with conviction and innocence that grew into destiny and pain by Michael O’Dwyer..
