Music Network brought ace guitarist Michael O’Toole to Christ Church Cathedral with a programme that was strong on virtuoso contemporary style and short on melodic entertainment.

He opened with a Waterford composer Jerome de Bromhead and then deviated from the printed programme. Nothing wrong with that you might say but O’Toole’s comments to the audience were almost inaudible from four rows from the front. A sleepy Kasper Mertz Elegy followed and Brouwer’s Elogio de la Danza had cinematic imagery and fine showy guitar technique.
