Edel Quinlan’s Dunhill based Centre Stage School Of Dance packed out the Theatre Royal for two nights last week with an overlong showcase of talent. The title, Musicality, was a little bit of a misnomer as mostly backing tracks were used.
The evening opened with a slow Requiem from Evita with Des Healy and Any Whelan dancing a tender You Must Love Me. Tom O’Neill in a tutu added much needed humour to a South Pacific sequence. A jazz routine Hindi Diamonds was intricate and classy and there was actual singing in a Sound Of Music selection, where Alana Williams danced a difficult routine.
Amy Whelan and Niamh Conway shone in a dance duet from Cats and an adult group impressed with All That Jazz.
The opening half closed on a sequence from High School Musical where the Audition scene was a triumph despite mimed songs. Robert skilton stood out in Together.
The Second Act featured work from Oliver, Joseph, hairspray and a beautiful selection from Billy Elliot featuring Des Healy and Robert Skilton as Young Billy.
