Famous Tramore victory

The Tramore Under 16 girls team defeated Blackburn Rovers 7-6 on penalties to win the Manchester Cup Shield on Sunday afternoon. The teams had drawn 1-1 at the end of normal time. This was the first time an Irish club won this competition. Some of the clubs Tramore played included Lincoln City, Manchester United and Crewe.

Hibs almost there

Following two seasons in Division 1A, Hibernians are now just one game away from a return to the Premier League.

They defeated Southend United 2-1 last Sunday with goals from Joey Phelan and Richie Burke, the former Villa player.

Victory over Bolton next weekend will guarantee them promotion.

Southend return to “Tiff”

Southend United have decided to place the burden of avoiding relegation on the shoulders of Brian “Tiff” Thompson.

The former manager has five games left to do just that. During the course of the season to date, David Walsh and Paul O’Brien were in charge.

Away draw for Waterford Youths

Following their stunning 5-0 win against the Dublin AUL, the Waterford Inter League side has been drawn away against either Galway or Donegal in the semi-final. The good news is that the final will be played in Ozier Park if they get through.

Waterford Crystal will play Cork City in Ozier Park in the final of the Munster Youth Cup. Carrick United will play Castlebar Celtic at the same venue in the semi-final of the FAI Junior Cup. If they are successful the final will be played at the RSC against either holders Killester United or Corduff.
