Gardai have alerted the public to a spate of car thefts and break-ins throughout the city, perpetrated by what they believe to be two or three groups of youths.

An estimated eight cars a week have been damaged or stolen and burnt out over the past three weeks at locations across the city, including Viewmount, Ballinakill Downs, Leamy St, Ardmore Park in Ballybeg and the carparks of Waterford Regional Hospital and St Patrick’s Hospital, the Quay and Millers’s Marsh.

Car satellite navigation systems, radios and bags have been taken and cars damaged in the attacks, with several vehicles stolen and burnt out. A number of arrests have been made in connection with some of the incidents. Gardai have urged people to be vigilant and not to leave valuable items in their cars.
