The tourists are rescued from the ‘Chair-o-plane’ in Tramore Amusement Park.
On Tuesday evening last, six holidaymakers were rescued from the ‘Chair-o-plane’ ride in Tramore Amusement Park after a mechanical failure left them stuck in the air at approximately 85 feet for more than an hour and a half.
The incident began at around 7.30pm during a busy evening in Tramore, with crowds of onlookers gathering at the scene.
The ride is a new addition to Tramore Amusement Park which shoots people in the air up to 200 feet from the ground and then spins them around.
The six holidaymakers, who were all staying at Fitzmaurice’s Caravan & Camping Park in Tramore, were left traumatised after the incident but had no injuries.
Six people were left stuck at 85 feet for more than an hour and a half.
The Health and Safety Authority was notified following the incident.
Manager of Tramore Amusement and Leisure Park Limited, Frank King, said the ‘Chair-o-plane’ was a new machine which was certified by an engineer only two weeks ago.
He apologised to the tourists and said he understood the anxiety and distress which they had suffered.
