Commuters on last Friday’s Dublin to Waterford train were delayed by up to two hours, following the stoning of the train just outside Naas.

The train’s driver was injured when the engine was hit by at least one rock, which is believed to have been thrown by youths.

The incident happened around 3.50pm and passengers on the train had to wait there until a replacement driver and engine carriage were brought to the location. The driver is being treated for his injuries.

Meanwhile car parking facilities will be severely restricted at Waterford’s Plunkett Station this weekend due to improvement works. Iarnrod Eireann has advised customers that to use alternative means where possible to access the station and apologised for any inconvenience caused.
