TRAMORE Library is ‘a victim of its own success’, according to a local councillor.
Cllr Joe Conway (Ind) has said the town is in need of a new library as soon as possible.
Speaking at the January plenary meeting of Waterford City & County Council, Cllr Conway explained that Tramore Library was more than 30 years old.
“It was designed and built for a town that had probably 60 per cent of the population that’s there now,” he said.
He explained that the library was very successful and heavily used.
“But it’s well past the time to start looking for a new library for Tramore,” he said.
Cllr Conway asked if this proposal had been explored by the local authority.

However, CEO of Waterford City & County Council Michael Walsh said that such a proposal was not currently feasible.
“To the best of my knowledge, there is no funding available at national level,” he said.
“There is no provision in the authority’s capital programme,” he added.
Mr Walsh explained that a new library for Tramore may be considered in the future but was not possible at the moment “based on affordability”.
