There is something extra attractive about two plays by the same author of a Saturday in the Abbey Theatre. The East Pier at 2 o’clock and The Passing at 7.30pm. Mercier is a friend and contemporary of Roddy Doyle – they taught in the same school once.
Neither play is interconnected directly although they share the same background into music from Mel Mercier. Neither play has an interval; Pier is over an hour long and The Passing an hour and a half.
