Great news from those good people who organise and administer the Ted And Mary O’Regan Arts Bursary, now in its fourth year, that Waterford Pantomime Society 1984 have given a once-off Bursary to be offered in 2008 of up to €4000 to a young person or adult who wishes to pursue a career or further training in Variety or Musical Theatre. This Panto body 1984 is the legacy of two, mostly unsung, heroes – Padraig O Griofa and Jimmy Kelly, who provided panto to the families of Waterford since 1984. They have passed the flame onto a new generation who will remember, with gratitude, the unselfish work done by O Griofa and Kelly as well as Michael Grant, who always flew the flag for Variety as well as Denny Corcoran and the Corcoran family.

I got a technical education in panto as well as getting an inspirational start from the O’Regans.

Details of these Bursaries from Garter Lane, The Granary, Dungarvan Arts Centre or from www.waterfordyoutharts.com. Closing date for applications is May 30th.
