Pre–championship favourites Ardmore justified that tag on Saturday last when they emerged as victors in the Western Intermediate Hurling Final, overcoming the challenge of gallant Modeligo at Fraher Field.
While Ardmore didn’t win this game in the manner in which they and indeed many others would have liked, they will still be pleased to have negotiated this potential banana skin.
The first score of the game didn’t arrive until the 12th minute of the game courtesy of a Seamus Prendergast free.
The Sea-siders added three further points, two from Richie Hennessy and one from Alan North followed in the next five minutes.
On 19 minutes Ardmore won a 20-metre free and given Seamus Prendergast’s stance it looked as if he was going to be content with taking a point.
But he fooled us all, blasting low and hard; the ball was blocked on the line and fell to inrushing David Hennessy who blasted low and hard across the goal and wide.
