Waterford United and Carrick United face away games in the 3rd Round of the FAI Cup following the draw which took place in the Ballsbridge Hotel in Dublin on Monday night. The Blues will make the journey to Terryland Park on Friday, June 6 to play Galway United. The Tribesmen are managed by the former Blackburn Rovers and Republic of Ireland defender Jeff Kenna who replaced Tony Cousins some weeks back.
Last season in the Premier League, Waterford took seven points from a possible nine against Galway, including an away victory (August 3) – their only win outside of the RSC during the entire campaign.
The Blues beat them 1-0 at the RSC on May 11 and drew 0-0 with them in their second last game of the campaign at the same venue.
The last time Galway and Waterford were drawn together in the FAI Cup was in the mid-90s when Johnny Matthews was manager. It took four games, including an abandoned tie due to a waterlogged Kilbarry pitch, to separate the sides. Galway won the fourth game 2-1 in Terryland Park.
FAI Junior Cp winners Carrick United will play Munster Senior League outfit Everton from Cork in their 3rd Round game. It will be the first time the teams have met. Everton defeated Tullamore FC in the last round 3-1, while Carrick overcame St James’s Gate 3-2 thanks to goals from Ian Cleary, Daryl Kavanagh and Stephen Hahessy in Round 2.
The Hoops will not have any fears when they play the Leeside Toffees on Sunday, June 8.
