Playing with pride: the Waterford United team that beat Cork City at Turners Cross last Friday.

Cork City 2;   Waterford United 3

Waterford United’s new-found spirit flourished in the red-hot atmosphere of Turners Cross last Friday night. The hosts went into the game with the only unbeaten record in the country but they had no answer against a rampant Waterford side who ran themselves ragged in their quest for a victory.
Ever player in a blue shirt, and indeed goalkeeper Kevin Burns in his pink jersey, turned in a performance that was a joy to behold. It was extraordinary to see the fans who stand in the famous ‘Shed’ end leave the ground after the full-time whistle in total silence.
