De La Salle became the first team to qualify for this year’s senior hurling county final when they enjoyed a surprisingly easy win over Passage in Walsh Park last Sunday.
Passage came into the game as the only unbeaten side left in the competition and will be extremely disappointed that they proved no match for a rampant De La Salle.
In what can only be described as a frantic opening period, De La Salle opened the scoring with a point from Dean Twomey before Passage scored a goal.
A long delivery into the De La Salle goalmouth was fielded wonderfully by Eoin Kelly who then turned and found the back of the De La Salle net.
Passage failed to kick on from the goal and the champions of 2008 were soon back in front when they scored a goal of their own.
A sparkling hand-pass from 17-year-old Jake Dillon sent John Mullane through on goal and the All-Star made no mistake with his finish.
The goal sparked a purple patch for De La Salle in which they played some wonderful hurling as they out-classed the Passage men.
Their pacy passing game allowed them to open up their opponents at will and they proceeded to fire over some wonderful points through Dillon and Conan Watt.
Passage on the other hand appeared to have only one plan and that was to get the ball into Kelly as quickly as possible.
When it worked, Kelly got a goal but on too many occasions the attempted long ball dropped short into the waiting palm of Kevin Moran who hurled a world of ball in the opening period.
