The Villa ran out winners in this game played at a rain lashed Connors Park on Thursday night last. The hosts are considered among the favourites to win this league, and on this performance that could be a very good call indeed.
Dungarvan were on the back foot from the opening whistle and the Villa went close through David Hobbs in the third minute.
The breakthrough arrived four minutes later, and what a fine goal it proved to be, as Sam Quigley skipped past full-back Gavin Power to drive the ball home from just outside the penalty area.
And that lead was doubled their advantage after 16 minutes, with Dean Power surging forward before unleashing a cracking 20-yard drive that flew past Dungarvan goalkeeper Mark Power.
Man of the match Jordan Mercer scored the third goal of the contest and a real beauty it was. Having got on the end of a Luke Fitzgerald pass, he found the far corner of the net with a delightful finish.
Dungarvan piled on the pressure for the remainder of the first half. Michael Murphy brought a good save from Michael Kavanagh and the same player was just off target with an overhead kick.
Ross Brown and Michael Troy were also unlucky not to find the Villa net before the half time whistle.
