On Sunday last in brilliant weather conditions the Annual Caulfields Supervalu/Munster Express 10k race and fun run attracted an entry approaching 1,150 in and around the city.

Men, women and children took part, including wheelchair competitors and an assisted visually-impaired competitor also. The vast majority were raising funds for various charities, local and national, and the entry proceeds from the event went to Waterford Hospice.

Cllr John Halligan, Mayor of Waterford, did the honours at the start line, just over half an hour or so before the overall winner, Shane Quinn, the talented young athlete from Ferrybank AC, returned home. He was always in the leading group and upped the pace with a mile or so to go to eventually run out an easy winner in a time of 33 minutes and 29 seconds.
