There were goals galore in a very exciting Waterford Schoolboy Under-12B league clash as Villa B and Johnville played out a thrilling six-goal contest at Connors Park on Saturday morning last as the visitors remained unbeaten in this league.
Kevin Deveraux went close to putting Johnville in front on six minutes when he stepped over a free kick on the edge of the penalty area following a foul on Ryan McLoughlin; however his well-struck, left-footed free kick flashed inches over the crossbar.
One of Johnville’s star men was Jack Power and he went close to breaking the deadlock less than two minutes later when he latched onto a through ball from Aaron Ryan, but Villa keeper Evan Barry did well to save his goal-bound effort.
But it was the home side that took the lead somewhat against the run of play just sixty seconds later when Ben Arrigan split the Johnville defence with an excellent pass and it was David Walsh that powered an unstoppable shot past Darragh Phelan from 16 yards.
McLoughlin could have levelled the tie on 12 minutes when he got his head on the end of a right-wing Kevin Deveraux corner kick but the striker couldn’t direct his header on target.
