Title-chasing Tramore dropped two vital points in this game which was played in Mitchel Kennedy Park on Sunday morning. Michael Donnelly, who had scored Hibernians’ first goal, stunned the seasiders in the last minute.
Since the start of the season Hibs have proved to be dogged characters and they will battle right until the bitter end, and they proved that here.
Robbie Phelan missed a decent chance to give Tramore the lead on 34 minutes when he got his head on the end of another Colin Walsh free kick from the left but the centre forward just couldn’t direct his effort on target.
The men from Graun Park and Sean Browne in particular were guilty of missing an unbelievable chance for the lead goal on 38 minutes. Walsh played in Robbie Phelan and when he squared the ball into the path of Browne, he somehow managed to fire wide of an open goal from four yards.
But Tramore did find the breakthrough less than sixty seconds later when Craig Maher fed Colin Walsh down the left, who in return set up Stephen Grant and when he crossed to the front post, Robbie Phelan was on hand to fire home at the front post.
Phelan was guilty of a bad miss to increase the Tramore lead in the final minute of the first half when he latched onto another pass from Grant but this time the striker managed to blaze wide when he really have should put his side in the driving seat.
