John Owens’ Waterford team bowed out of the McGrath Cup at the semi-final stage on Sunday last in Ardmore.
It was the home side that had the better start racing into a two-point lead with less than five minutes played courtesy of a brace of Michael Donnelly frees.
However the visitors soon settled and by the end of the first quarter held a 0-4 to 0-2 lead. Indeed, they could well have had a goal seven minutes in via the boot of Timmy Ryan were it not for a superb block from Thomas O’Gorman.
Niall Browne (one of three players to switch inter county allegiances recently), followed by Alan Clohessy, Rory Donnelly and Cathal O’Connor all registered points inside a five-minute spell.
