Jimmy-PayneRyanBurnettWaterford’s Jimmy Payne hugs Belfast boxer Ryan Burnett after he won the light-flyweight gold medal at the inaugural World Youth Olympics in Singapore last Wednesday. The 18-year-old’s cornerman along with Jim Moore, Jimmy is a lifelong member of St Pauls BC here in the City and is a former four-time national champion. Holder of the Guinness world 24-hour skipping record (set in 2004), when he wasn’t busy as Irish Youth coach and training up-and-coming fighters in St Pauls, Jimmy also worked with the Waterford senior hurlers last season. Ryan had said before the biggest bout of his young life: “I’ll just stick to the game plan in the final and listen to my coaches Jim Moore and Jimmy Payne. I’m confident that I can win.” As were they, with very good reason.
