Stephen Hunt likes to call a spade a spade, and even he must felt like telling Phil Brown a few home truths.
The reflection-loving Hull City boss reckoned last week that his side, currently stuck in the bottom three, aren’t a million miles off playing European football. Which doesn’t quite tally with his chairman’s “point per game” survival target.
When Brown took the Waterford winger off towards the end of Saturday’s awful 0-0 draw with Portsmouth, a sizeable section of the KC Stadium support started into “You don’t know what you’re doing.”
The Hull manager, who has been compared to David Brent of ‘The Office’ infamy, fined on-loan American striker Jozy Altodore for turning up late for the game and apologising to Tigers fans via Twitter. It should have stayed “in house,” Brown said. Just like his half-time team-talk against Man City should have stayed in the dressing-room last Christmas.
