Johnville stole all of the headlines on the opening day of the season when they defeated Waterford Crystal 5-1 in St Martin’s Park. In that game they took the lead inside the first minute and from then on they dominated the game completely.

It was a different story however on Friday evening last as they fell behind early on and were left to climb a mountain, something they failed to do against a Villa outfit who were playing their first game of the new season.

Heavy rain fell during the hours leading up to the kick off time and a magnificent rainbow appeared as the players walked on to the pitch for the game and remained in the sky for about 15 minutes.

Just which of these clubs will find a crock of gold come the end of the season? On the evidence of this game it would appear that Villa will have a better chance of enjoying a good campaign but Johnville have been written off lots of times in recent years so it would be foolish to start predicting another struggle for them.

All in all this was a terrific game, and lets hope we will have many more like it during the coming nine months.
