Ballinacourty are the Park Hotel County Senior Football League Champions for 2010 after they overcame the challenge of Stradbally in the final at Fraher Field.
While both sides were short key first choice personnel from their respective starting line-ups, they still fielded strong starting fifteen.
While the game lacked the intensity of a full-blown championship tie, it did provide the two sets of selectors some valuable playing time ahead of their championship quarter-finals.
It was the County Champions that started better when Niall Curran pointed a free with six minutes on the clock, but this was to prove to be the one and only occasion in which they led over the hour.
Laurence Hurney with a fisted effort, a Patrick Hurney score from distance and a James Mahony point from play following good work from Laurence Hurney all gave Ballinacourty a two-point cushion at the end of the opening quarter.
The Gold Coast clubmen shot the only goal of the game on 16 minutes when Patrick Hurney, who was the most impressive player on view, got inside the Stradbally defence and shot at goal but his effort was saved by Oliver Costello. However, Hurney was on hand to collect the rebound and had little difficultly finishing second time around.
Ballinacourty were not in the ascendancy and had further points registered by James O’Mahony (free), Mark Ferncombe and Mark Fives with his fist.
Stradbally’s second score of the game came two minutes from the end of the opening half when Niall Curran, again from a free, pointed.
Stradbally ensured that there was just six between the sides at the interval when Pat Weldon kicked their first score from play in stoppage time, leaving the scoreboard reading 1-6 to 0-3.
