This will not be remembered as one of the great Youth Cup deciders of recent times. If one was to be truthful, it was dour at times, and were it not for an inspired team change by the Southend management team three minutes from full time, this final would be easily forgotten. The two teams had too much respect for each other, and as a result the majority of the play got bogged down in the middle of the park.
