Fourmilewater all but secured their place in the quarter-finals of this year’s Senior Championship, coming from behind to beat a fancied Abbeyside side in a rescheduled first round game at Fraher Field on Saturday last.
Both sides in the opening half wasted much of their procession, hitting seven wides each as well landing several chances short of the target.
After the break, matters didn’t improve much as Fourmilewater doubled their wides tally total, with Abbeyside falling just one short of doing so.
At the interval, it was the eventual victors that held a slender two point lead, opening the scoring through Jamie Barron after five minutes.
Further points from Mark Gorman, Richie Fenton, Alan Lawlor and Jamie Barron put Fourmilewater leading 0-5 to 0-3 ahead with twenty-eight minutes played.
Thankfully there were some moments in the opening half which gave those present something to talk about at the break, and they were all confined to the closing minutes of the half.
A minute into added time, Mark Gorman surged through on goal and with what appeared to be a good goal scoring opportunity but his ground stroke went across the Fourmilewater goal and wide.
