Abbeyside guaranteed themselves second place in group 2 of the County Senior Hurling Championship with a four-point win over an impressive Ballyduff Lower in Kilmacthomas last Saturday evening.

Events elsewhere on the evening ensured that there wasn’t anything at stake in this game, but neither side knew this beforehand and they both went hell for leather to gain the two points on offer. In fairness to Abbeyside, they were already qualified but they still had too much class for a Ballyduff outfit who must now face the might of Mount Sion in the Quarter final.

As the game went on Ballyduff were not to know how Passage were doing in their game and so they threw everything bar the kitchen sink at their western opponents.

The moving of full-back, John O’Leary was a testimony to how much they were pushing towards the end.
