Waterford Crystal remain on course to complete the Division Four double following this exciting semi-final in Ozier Park on Friday night last. Heavy showers failed to dampen the spirits of both sides who gave their all during the hour. Following normal time, the game had to be decided in a penalty shoot-out, just as with the previous semi-final 24 hours earlier.
Both teams had a lot of possession during the first half but it was Crystal who had the better chances, especially from set pieces taken by Derek Gailbert and Niall Butler, but Portlaw defenders Jimmy Gilman and Neill Murray mopped up everything that came their way.
The breakthrough arrived in the first minute of the second period. Davy Walsh won possession of the ball out on the left flank. He picked out Gailbert who in turn played the ball to Ian Walsh who blasted past Portlaw goalkeeper Tyrone Power-White.
