Waterford United manager Gareth Cronin could barely conceal his anger following the full-time whistle at Santry.

“We gave away three ridiculous goals out there tonight,” said the Blues boss. “It was schoolboy defending and there is no doubt that we are throwing away the league. A few of my players did not do the business for me tonight and that is disappointing to say the very least.

“Not to be able to deal with two over the top balls in dreadful. We had conceded 10 penalties before this evening one and that is terrible also. At times this season our defending has been abysmal and tonight was one of those.”

Added Cronin: “We will go to Limerick next week and grind out a result here. I will make sure of that. We can still win this league if we win our five remaining games. I will sort things out during the coming week. We have put too much into this campaign to leave it all slip away now.”

When asked about his future with the club, Cronin refused to be drawn on that matter.

“We have vital games left to play in the coming weeks. I will get through those games and take things from there after those,” concluded a very unhappy Blues boss.
