stephen-huntIt’s reported that Wolves have made an increased bid for the services of Hull City winger Stephen Hunt.

The 28-year-old Waterford man only joined the Tigers in the summer and has been one of their best performers as they battle against relegation.

Mick McCarthy, who has also expressed an interest in Sunderland’s Daryl Murphy, is a big admirer of the former Carrick United schoolboy and is prepared to pay around stg£3.5m to bring him to Molineux during the January transfer window.

Hunt’s wages are reputed to be £35,000-a-week, so a deal could depend on Wolves at least matching that. Hull are heavily in debt, needing £16m to balance the books this season even if Phil Brown’s side stay up.

Though his manager insists Hunt’s heart is at the KC Stadium, a switch to the Midlands would probably appeal to the Ireland international, given that his best friend and former Reading team-mate Kevin Doyle from Wexford is Wanderers’ main striker. Both already experienced relegation with the Royals the season before last.

Hunt’s wife Joanna – Doyle’s cousin – is expecting their first child and the Clonea-Power man will want to sort out his future as quickly as possible.
