Over the course of a career, hurling gives many hours of joy, pleasure and elation to so many.

When players retire, they inevitably look back at the days when cups and titles are won – and lost. Last Saturday’s epic All-Ireland semi-final at Semple Stadium will now and forever feature in the latter as far as the hurlers of De La Salle are concerned.

When substitute Lee Hayes scored a mighty point from 70 yards to put De La Salle two points clear towards the end of extra time, it looked as if Clarinbridge’s brave bid had failed.

But in a final twist, Alan Kerins’ effort, deflected off the stick of Ian Flynn fell straight into the path of Eanna Murphy who flicked the ball home, sparking elation among the Clarinbridge support.
