Antrim and Waterford will have to meet again to decide the outcome of the Gala All Ireland Junior Camogie title after the teams ended deadlocked on 1-9 apiece at Croke Park on Sunday.
The Saffrons appeared to have secured victory when Jane Adams put them ahead with time almost up.
But seconds later Karen Kelly brought the Deise girls back on level terms and so the sides will have to meet again in Ashbourne on October 3rd.
Antrim had the better of a low scoring first half and led 0-4 to 0-3 at the short whistle, and they appeared to be heading for victory when Racquel McCarry fired in a goal shortly after the restart.
Waterford opened the brighter of the sides with a Karen Kelly point on three minutes and three minutes later it looked like curtains for Antrim’s challenge when full-back Aileen Martin had to retire early with an injury.
However, the loss of the influential full back was not the loss was not as major as thought and for the rest of the opening half the Northerners were the better of the two sides.
Michaela Convery hit an equaliser for Antrim before Áine Lynn restored Waterford’s lead with a point from a free only for it to be cancelled out with a pointed free struck by Jane Adams.
Adams and McCarry added further points for Antrim before the break to give them a four points to two lead but Áine Lyng in first half stoppage time rounded up the first half scoring.
While the first half may have been a dour contest, with many of the players succumbing to nerves playing on the big stage, the second half was the polar opposite.
Both sides opened up and the Saffrons looked to have stolen a huge march on Andy Maloney’s charges when Jane Adams and Raquel McCarry combined for the latter to strike for a well taken goal soon after the restart.
