VLM Airlines is to discontinue its Waterford/ Birmingham route from Monday, May 2nd.
However, the company will continue to operate a seven days a week daily service from Waterford Airport to London Luton.
In a statement, Waterford Airport CEO Desmond O’Flynn expressed his disappointment at the news. “It is particularly unfortunate that the withdrawal of service comes just before the peak summer season,” he said. “We usually have a strong increase in leisure passengers which more than offsets any fall-off in business travel during the summer holiday months.”
Mr O’Flynn added: “At the same time, we want to acknowledge the hard work and effort put in by our colleagues at Birmingham Airport as well as the many stakeholders that have supported the service through various promotions and other activities both here and in the UK.”
Desmond O’Flynn encouraged anyone travelling from the region to London to use Waterford Airport. “Similarly, if you are in touch with family, friends or business colleagues in the UK who are coming to the South East, please advise them to check for direct flights to Waterford. The convenience and ease of flying through Waterford Airport remains unbeatable.”
