There was dismay and outrage in Waterford this week following an Irish Times report that the Regional Airport faced closure next year because of a withdrawal of government funding.
The front-page article claimed that Transport Minister, Leo Varadker, would soon inform managements at Waterford, Galway and Sligo that his Department did not have sufficient funds to continue subsidising their operations and what money he did have would go to other airports that were closer to viability.
