WaterfordByNightWaterford City Council is determined that the city will have its ‘best face on’ come the opening of the new Waterford Crystal Visitor Centre on The Mall this summer.
The Council is also keen to have fresh coats of paint on several city centre buildings when the Viking Triangle Walking Tour kicks off on June 1st.
Environmental Services Director Colette Byrne told Councillors that her office has contacted over 100 property owners in the city “to request that they paint or repair the facades of their buildings”.
She added: “The response in the main has been positive, with some owners having already carried out the requested works.”
In the event of property owners failing to comply with this request, Ms Byrne said the Council “may make the decision to place the property on the Derelict Sites Register”.
Should this occur, owners will then have a two-week window in which to make representations to City Hall “at which time the Council will determine whether to proceed and enter the property in the Register”.
Councillors Tom Cunningham, Seamus Ryan and John Cummins said they were heartened to see owners complying with the Council’s request so promptly.
