The same amount will also be provided for the erection of interactive and interpretive signage in An Rinn. The village of Kill is to receive €80,000 for enhancement works while Lismore is to receive €92,000 for the repair and upgrade of two woodland walks. Meanwhile, €100,000 is also being provided for the upgrade of the pilgrim path walk at Ardmore. Senator Paudie Coffey (FG) described the grant assistance as a very positive benefit to the rural communities across County Waterford. “The Town and Village Renewal Scheme is a key part of the Government’s Action Plan for Rural Development,” he said. “The Scheme focuses on projects which can help to enhance rural towns and villages with populations of less than 5,000 people, with a particular emphasis on stimulating economic development. Almost €53 million has been approved for more than 670 projects across the country under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme since it was introduced in the second half of 2016.”
Senator Coffey said the announcement gives “a real boost to communities in towns and villages across Waterford who are working hard to develop projects that make our villages more attractive to live in and visit and this is to be welcomed”. “I wish the nine Waterford communities who will benefit from this funding the very best in delivering these positive projects for their areas and I look forward to visiting them over the coming months to see the progress being made which I have no doubt will bring huge benefits to our county.”
