The reworking of the Quay into the city’s second ‘Green Route’, which includes provision for two new roundabouts on Waterford’s busiest urban throughway, is set to be completed by next summer.
This follows the Department of Transport’s injection of ‘significant monies’ into the project, with the National Transport Authority (NTA) providing matching funding.
The news has been welcomed by Waterford City Council, with Fine Gael Councillor John Cummins hopeful that the new works will see the Quay “reclaimed from heavy traffic”.
Said Cllr Cummins: “Having full funding in place for the Quay is great news. The Minister (Leo Varadkar) and the NTA’s announcement is part of the Government’s Job Initiative for shovel-ready projects, and it’s welcome to see Waterford featuring in this programme.
