Bulmers of Clonmel, which employs staff from all over the South East including Waterford, announced yesterday (Thursday) that it was embarking on a cost reduction and reorganisation programme that would require up to 50 redundancies at its manufacturing facility in Clonmel. Management said it would commence consultations with employees and trade union representatives with immediate effect and expected to have concluded the cost reduction and reorganisation programme by December. Where possible, redundancies would be obtained on a voluntary basis, said a spokesperson.

Bulmers General Manager, Paul O’Sullivan, said the combined impact of a dramatically weakening consumer environment and the continued migration of cider volumes from the ‘on’ to ‘off’ trade had adversely impacted the on business in this country.
